Green travel in Africa is about - Taking only photos and leaving only footprints.

You don’t have to be a hairy hippie or eco-warrior to tread a little more lightly and travel more politely in Africa and elsewhere. When you travel in Africa remember to:

1. Kayak or canoe instead of jet skiing. Paddle rather than motor.

2. Take your garbage with you and never litter

3. Try to limit your flying trips

4. Don’t go fishing where species are being depleted - Check the chart

5. Choose eco-friendly accommodation and tour operators

6. Choosing guest houses and hotels - Go local rather than backing the big chains that don’t have a personal interest in local habitat preservation

7. Walk instead of taking fume spewing rickshaws and cabs in cities

8. Use local guides, supporting communities that live in the places you visit

9. Purify your own water rather than buying bottled water - saves on plastic

10. Shop in local markets, supporting locals and minimising packaging and transport
