It has arrived - Afrika Burns, the Burning Man festival of South Africa!
This arts festival is a collaborative event and participants are encouraged to make creative contributions. The Africa Burns festival is based on the US Burning Man festival held annually in the Nevada Desert. It is run as a non-profit venture at which buying and selling is not allowed, only sharing or “gifting”.
The event is all about self-expression and self-reliance. The idea is to create a community for the free trade of ideas and art creations, leaving no trace behind after the event.
Afrika Burns is being held in Tankwa Town, in the Karoo, 2.5 hours out of Cape Town. You can no longer buy tickets for Afrika burns online, so buy them on long (#186) for between R250 and R300. Tickets at the gate will cost R350 (cash only), so buy beforehand to save. There are an unlimited number of tickets for Africa Burns, but you need to get there before 8pm on Saturday.
So, if you are remotely creative get your camping gear together and head off to the African Burning Man festival for the experience of a life time over the weekend.

It looks like Burning Man for 2008 will be happening from 25 August - 1 September. Check out the Burning Man Website for more info. Should be a good one, again.
