Claudia de Vries - Profile
Claudia de Vries is the managing director of OverlandingAfrica.com. She has worked in the travel industry since 1996.
Claudia worked as a crew member of an overland truck for over 8 years. In this time she she fell in love with Africa, gaining an invaluable amount of experience travelling along Africa’s most popular safari routes.
Although Claudia hails from Holland originally, she knows more about travelling in Africa than most native Africans. From the day she first set foot on Mother Africa over 10 years ago, she knew she would end up living in Africa one-day. “One-day” has arrived and now South Africa is Claudia's home, living at the foot of Table Mountain in beautiful Cape Town.
What inspires Claudia?
Claudia discovered after her first 5 months of backpacking, that “the more you travel, the more you realize that there are so many more places to be explored”. She says that the travel bug will remain inside her system until she is old & grey, but she is happy to have slowed down more recently.
A word of warning: Claudia will try to install her passion for Africa, its friendly & warm people and its amazing wildlife into anyone that she comes across!
In her spare time...
Claudia likes to enjoy the good life! Lazy afternoons spent on a wine farm sampling some of South Africa’s finest wines combined with a scrumptious lunch. You will also find her climbing to the top of Table Mountain, in time for one of Africa’s most amazing sunsets. Alternatively she’ll jump in her Land Rover for a camping weekend in the bush.
If you were one of Africa’s interesting animals...
"I’ve always said that in my next life I’ll come back as a hippo, why?
- You get as fat as you like and everyone thinks you’re sexy
- You can laze about in the sun the whole day & when you get too hot you go for a dip in the pool
- Food is at your fingertips, or should I say hooftips?
- And when you’re bored, you chew a tourist for a bit of fun..."
- Strangers are just unknown friends (although, don’t take this one to literally as you’ll end up with lots of “friends” at the Tanzanian border all wanting to sell you the same bracelets!)
- Life is full of choices, you make your own choices. (Getting out of bed grumpy is your choice, so you might as well make the choice not to be grumpy!)
- Shit always rolls downhill so make sure you’re never at the bottom of the hill
