Surrounded by the Atlantic ocean Cape Town has some excellent beaches. And for this week report I had the ‘horrible’ task of checking them out!

The various beaches around Cape Town are ideal to spend your time sunbathing, taking a dip in the cold water, or take on an extreme sport like bodysurfing or kitesurfing. Here is a list of all the beaches in and around Cape Town.

Beaches in Cape Town

  • Atlantic Seaboard (Cold and chilly water, trendy beaches)
    • Clifton Beach (Four beaches in total, all hip and trendy)
    • Camps Bay (Famous beach and very family friendly)
    • LLandudno Beach (Beautiful beach, perfect for surfing and sundown)

  • False Bay Beaches
    • Muizenberg (Perfect for beginning surfers)
    • Fish Hoek Beach (Popular family beach near Cape Point)
    • Boulders Beach (Swimming with Penguins possible)

  • Hout Bay (Great for windsurfers and other watersports)

  • Noordhoek & Kommetje (Great for horse riding and surfing)

  • Boubergstrand (Great for watersports with strong winds)

My own beach experiences

The best sunbathing beaches in Cape Town are Clifton and Camps Bay. Clifton is always sheltered from the hard howling winds, and ideal to get a tan. For surfing it is great to go to Kommetje, on Long Beach there are some excellent waves. Alternatively, Bloubergstrand is also excellent for surfing and kite surfing.

Next weekend I will be doing some shopping at the V/A Waterfront, and fill you in on all the activities to be found at the V/A Waterfront.
