One of the highlights of the overlandtrip was spending Christmas in Africa by taking a mokoro and going bush camping in the heart of the Okavango Delta.

The unspoiled piece of nature you enter, and the whole experience is just breath-taking. From the peacefull rhythm of nature to the amazing wildlife you can find, it is an experience you will never forget!

So we started early in the morning, everyone was tired but also excited to go on this 3 day bush camping trip in the Okavango Delta. Truly back to nature! We drove to the take-off point for the long canoe’s, called the mokoro’s, which would take us into the heart of the Delta.

After a very relaxing journey in the mokoro we arrived at our island, where we would set up camp for the next three days. During lunch we were shortly interrupted by a black cobra that tried to creep into our camp. But after the excellent guides got rid of the dangerous snake, we jumped in the ’safety’ of the river.

That is real bush camping the Okavango Delta. And just to relax we went for a swim after lunch in the river, with hippo’s and crocs possibly nearby. It was pretty safe though and very refreshing. Very nice because we went on a game walk right afterwards in the evening.

It was very nice as we saw some warthogs, baboons and birds from close by. And as we were walking back we had our biggest surprise and most exciting moment for me on the trip. We walked past a bush and heard some noise. All of the sudden a very loud noise! A thundering noise went through the bush.

And then we saw what caused the noise, a large buffalo! It got out of the bush about 200 meters from us, and stopped for awhile. Then it ran away luckily. We were all very excited!

Our day of excitement ended with a lovely meal cooked by our own overlanding cook, who joined us in the jungle!
