The digital map of Africa on Google Earth will soon be improved thanks to the help of Tracks4Africa and ordinary travelers.
Tracks4Africa has supplied Google with a layer of data that will be featured on the new map of Africa providing:
- roads
- recreational trails
- camping sites
- lodges
- businesses
- information centres
- places of interest in rural Africa
All this information is acquired by normal travelers from all over the world, and is gathered by Tracks4Africa who digitalize it on a map for use on for instance GPS devices.
The initiative is not aimed at the major urban centres, but more on the remote areas. The detailed mapping of rural South Africa thus has great benefits for anyone traveling and/or working in these areas, while also aiding small business initaitives and projects operated by locals. So a great benefit to all, and it is also helps the people of Africa build on their future!
