American folk legend and rock pioneer Shawn Phillips will be performing the final concert of the Appletiser Summer Sunset Concert series at Kirstenbosch on the 1st of April at 5:30 PM.

In a musical career spanning 40 years, Shawn Phillips has recorded 18 albums and sold over 3 million records. Playing on electric and acoustic 6- and 12-string guitars, he crosses freely between folk-rock, jazz, progressive, pop and classical genres.

He recently returned from a two-month sold-out tour of Canada and the US, the highight of which was the performance of his classical pieces by the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. He is currently composing a ballet based on the book ‘Worlds in Collision’ by Vilakovsky as well as songs
for a new album due to be recorded in 2007.

Tickets for Shawn Phillips are R 40 for adults, R 30 for students (with student card) and R 15 for scholars, inclusive of the garden entrance fee. Tickets will be available from the Kirstenbosch Visitors’ Centre ticket office from Friday, 30 March. Telephonic bookings can also be made on (021) 761 2866 (an administration fee of R 10 per ticket is applicable for telephonic bookings).

The Appletiser Summer Sunset Concerts take place at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden (Rhodes Avenue, Newlands, Cape Town) on Sundays from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM.
