The Mount Nelson is one of my favourite hotels in Cape Town. Close to everything and set in some of the most beautiful gardens, this hotel is one of Cape Towns oldest landmarks. I was lucky enough to spend the night and pamper myself in the luxurious spa, in the lap of understated luxury.

What makes the Mount Nelson a favourite for travellers and locals alike, is high tea at the hotel, which is a very old tradition, from the days when South Africa was under British rule.

• Afternoon Tea is served in the Lounge, on the Terrace or in the garden around the Lord Kitchener Fountain.

• Served daily from 14h30 to 17h30, Afternoon Tea costs ZAR 150 per adult and ZAR 75 per child under 12.

• Dress: Informal.
