You have to go up Table Mountain in Cape Town at least once! And now is the time to go, because the summer specials on cable car tickets have just started (as of December 1). Go up after 6pm and you pay half price. This makes it R65 per adult for a return cable car ticket instead of R130, a nice bit of saving.

Taking the cable car up Table Mountain is one of my all time favourite things to do in Cape Town. I like to look out over Cape Town and Camps Bay as the floor of the cable car revolves. On top of Table Mountain you can enjoy a little walk or a sundowner at the bistro, while marvelling at the breathtaking views over Cape Town city and the surrounds some more.

Going up Table Mountain, Cape Town’s icon, is a must for all visitors - a holiday in South Africa wouldn’t be complete without this fun activity.

Cape Town’s Table Mountain is not just for tourists, with the summer specials you can enjoy a brilliant sunset from this vantage point well above the bustle and noise of the city. It takes about 5 minutes for the car to reach the top and coming down you see the lights of the city glittering below.

The Bistro on top of Table Mountain serves delicious Sushi fresh from Riverville in Cape Town and some tasty cheeses from Fairveiw, as well as chilled champagne. The Dassie Den is a kiddie area for keeping the little ones entertained while you relax. Children’s cable car tickets are R35 return after 6pm, on summer special.

Instead of the usual - heading to the gym or home in the bustling city - try something different by going up the world-famous Table Mountain of to unwind and get a different perspective.

Why not treat yourself (and maybe someone special) after work one lovely summer’s day in Cape Town?

If you have more time and think the cable car is for the lazy you could hike up table mountain. I’ll be taking the cable car, so see you at the top!

Take a look at this REALIZE project that took 45 children from the Baphumelele Orphanage up Table Mountain at the end of November as part of a days outing in Cape Town.

When (which month) does the price reduce from R130 (besides the R65 for after 6pm) - out of season price

Here are the rates for the cable car. Prices are valid until September 2008. It appears that prices for the cable car up Table Mountain are not seasonal, but there are concessions for wild card holders, students, children and senior citizens.
