Scuba diving sites in South Africa offer a variety of dive experiences, from warm water coral reef diving in KwaZulu Natal to cold water kelp forest dives in Cape Town.

KwaZulu Natal is South Africa’s top dive destination, with world class dive sites at Sodwana Bay and Aliwal Shoal. In Aliwal Shoal you will get to dive with a huge variety of fish species, rays, turtles and sharks. Aliwal Shoal is also an excellent place to see schools of dolphins and pods of whales. Sodwana Bay is home to a variety of corals and tropical fish galore. Diving in Sodwana offers a variety of reef dive experiences with pinnacles, buttresses, caves and blow holes. Scuba divers can also view dolphins, sharks, whale sharks and turtles in Sodwana Bay. Or you can choose to be part of the Sardine run at Protea Banks south of Aliwal Shoal on the Natal coast and Port St Johns in the Transkei.

Float beneath the canopy of a kelp forest in the cold waters of the Western Cape. The Western Cape coast is the only place in the world where all three kelp types are found together so it is the perfect place to experience the beauty of underwater forests of kelp. In the waters of Cape Town you will also dive with a variety of marine life, as well as bright anemones and nudibranchs.

The beautiful Garden Route also has several good dive sites at Plettenberg Bay, Mossel Bay, Knysna and the Tsitsikamma Marine Park.

Or, you could explore South Africa overland or go to the top snorkeling sites in Southern Africa.
