Hey Judey,

The rafting is a Grade 5 designation which means it can be pretty tough. A couple of different companies run the rafting in different spots and although the safety record and equipment used is good it is still a 'extreme sport'. All care is taken obviously but nothing can be guaranteed when it comes to this type of activity.

Contact your local GP or Travel Clinic for the latest updates on required immunizations for Africa. I would recommend Yellow Fever (don't forget to get the certificate) and some malaria protection at the least.

Happy travels!

Hey Duncan,

The minimum age for Gorilla Trekking is 15 years of age and as far as I am aware that applies to ALL of the protected areas. I am unable to find any information on official (or unofficial) web sites to the contrary.

Sorry I could not be of more help...

Cheers, Tania.

Hi Hermi,
My 11-year-old son is gorilla crazy; probably destined to take over from where Dian Fossey left off. I am very keen to take him on a gorilla trek while he still has this interest and before such influences are blasted out by the hormones kicking in!
Which gorilla venue has the lowest age restriction?
Cheers,
Duncan

Hi Hermi,

Thank you for your enquiry. With reference to the Gorilla Safaris – they are still going and have done without problems, but please bear in mind these are well organised group tours and are secure.

With reference to travelling the rest of Uganda and specifically working in villages unfortunately we are not qualified to answer this and suggest you contact your countries embassy to get clarity.

I am sorry I could not be of more assistance, Carla.

What is the safety factor for travelling in Uganda, working with villages, gorilla trekking etc.?

My daughter -23- is considering a trip in June and as a mom--well travelled as I am--however, still concerned...Hermi
