Zambia visa requirements and costs have recently been changed by the Zambian government. The Zambian government has amended their policies and is no longer offering tourist the visa waiver option.

Below are the current costs of visas to enter Zambia:

  • $50 for all passport holders - single entry
  • $80 for all passport holders - multiple entry
  • $20 for day Trips (for clients doing activities on the Zambian side of the Zambezi and entering at Vic Falls from Zimbabwe)

**Please note that countries that previously did not require a visa to enter Zambia still do not need to purchase one (Irish, South African etc). For additional visa information regarding the current Zambia visa prices and requirements, please contact your local consulate.

Thanks very much for the feedback Margie. Interesting that although you have SA Residency they have still charged you the British rate! (I will file that away for future reference). I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip - Zambia is amazing!

Hi Frederic,
Unfortunately the visa waiver policy no longer applies to any visitors to Zambia. As far as I am aware the only option is to pay for a full visa upon entry.

Congratulations!! .. and happy travels!

Hi

My husband and I (live in South Africa) and are going to Zambia for a weekend getaway in two weeks time. My husband is an Italian citizen but has South African residency. Would he be able to obtain a VISA at the border or entry. If so is this a reliable option or should we obtain a VISA prior departure?

Thanks
Lynette

Hi Lynette,

I am assuming your husband is traveling on a Italian passport? If so, he can purchase his visa at the border. It is fairly reliable option - I have not heard of anyone being refused a visa at the border (provided they have the relevant documentation) but if you are concerned you can get the visa in advance as well.

Have a great trip!

I am travelling to zambia next week for a 2 month voluntary work placement in livingstone, the advice i had been given was that i would need an entry visa (the company the placement has been organised through is a UK organisation, however i am an irish citizen and understand that this is not a requirement for Irish citizens, unlike UK Citizens. Could you advise?. Thanks

Greetings,
I hold a south African passport and will be traveling with an American Group to Zambia next month, Confirm I do not need a visa and is the waiver automatic as I go through customs or do I need to do paperwork there .
(how will I be processed compared to my group of Americans..will I wait for them or they wait for me)

Hi Tania,

I am going to Zambia next month and fly from Zambia to Tanzania and then back to Zambia for 1 night before flying out again. I am a UK passport holder.

Is there any way for me to get around needing a multiple entry visa?

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Steve and Mari,

Irish passport holders do not need a visa. You will just get a stamp in your passport on arrival.

Have fun!

Hi Laura,

You do not need a visa either - just a entry stamp at Immigration. You may have to complete a Entry Card (ie: just a form that says where you are staying plus your passport details) but it depends who is on the desk when you get there. Fill it out just in case - they are on the counter in a pile… :) You will have to wait for your American travellers as they will also have to complete a Entry Card, pay, receive their receipt and have their visa stuck in their passports.

Happy travels! :)

Hi Simon,

Your question is a bit trickier…. and sadly I think the short answer would be no :(

I am assuming you are flying in and out of the same airport each time as most people do? If you are, then theoretically you will require a Multiple Entry Visa.

If you are NOT flying in and out of the same place then ‘confusing the way becomes…’ :) I’ll try to explain in a way that makes sense!
You could get a Single Entry Visa on your first arrival (regardless of which airport/border you arrive to/depart from), do your thing and then trundle off to Tanzania.
The problem lies when you come back for the one night. To qualify for a Transit visa you must be in the country for less than 24hrs AND enter and exit through DIFFERENT borders. ie: it does not class as a transit if you come in and out at the same border/airport. So if you arrived back from Tanzania to say, Lusaka airport, but depart from Livingstone heading home, within 24 hours of landing, you would qualify.

I hope that makes sense - let me know if not! :)

Good luck!

Can citizens from India obtain visa on arrival? We would be visiting South Africa and wish to see Victoria falls from Zambia side and stay overnight. Also please advice about the visa requirement for Canadian citizens asap

Hi Gurjeet,

India passport holders need to apply for their Zambian visa in advance and can not obtain a visa on arrival (according to the Zambian Home Office website). You will need to contact the Zambian High Commission or Consulate in your country of residence.
Canadian passport holders can obtain their visa on arrival.

Happy travels!

Do Irish passport holders require visas for Zimbabwe?

Tania Wheeler

Tania Wheeler

Hi David,

As far as I am aware you do not need a visa for Zimbabwe. Irish passport holders have been exempt from visa’s for some time. You will just receive your entry stamp at the port of entry.

Please keep in mind that the situation in Zim is very ‘fluid’ at the moment and things are changing overnight so be prepared to pay for a visa, just in case. I would budget $50 to be on the safe side.

Enjoy!

Hi,
I’m a canadian citizen flying into Livingstone to then travel overland north to Tanzania. Will I be able to get a visa at the airport if I need one?

Hi Renee,

Yes you can. :)

Hi,

I am Dutch and am planning to visit Vic Falls in October this year together with my girlfriend. We have booked a flight to Livingstone and probably stay one night there, but will have to be in Vic Falls the next day and travel to Botswana their after. Do I understand correctly I can request for a transit visa? Do I need to obtain the visa upforehand, or can I obtain it at Livingstone airport ( which is preferred by me)?
And what about a visa for Zimbabwe? Can this be obtained from the Zambian/Zimbabwan border?

Thanks,

Arthur

Tania Wheeler

Hi Arthur,

You can request your visa on arrival in Livingstone. Transit visas have specific terms and conditions attached such as: you can only be in the country for less than 24 hours, must depart from a different border than what you arrived at, must not visit any National Park or tourism sites during your stay and must not be returning to Zambia afterwards. It is still at the discretion of the Immigration official as to whether they will issue you a transit visa or not so bring your powers of persuasion.

Zimbabwe visa’s can be purchased at your port (border) of entry. With everything that is going on in Zimbabwe things can change overnight, so make sure you check with your local embassy closer to the time to make sure of the cost and if the visa can still be purchased on arrival.

Good luck!
