Hi Div,

You can definitely get a visa on arrival in Zambia. It will cost you US$50 for a single entry and the South African Immigration officials should not have a problem with you. :)

Happy trails!

HI RJ,

You will need a visa and it will cost you US$135 for a Multiple Entry. (http://africatravelguide.org/zambia-visa/). You can purchase the visa on arrival at the airport.

You will need a visa for Vic Falls ONLY if you are crossing to the Zimbabwe side of the Falls. There is a fantastic view of the Falls from the Zambian side so you do not need to cross the border. Keep in mind there is currently a 'no travel' ban for US citizens wanting to travel to Zim and this invalidates your travel insurance so I would not recommend a trip over that side of the bridge at this point.

It is a easy and short hop over to Botswana and the closest town would be Kasane, home of the fantastic Chobe National Park - well worth a look if you have time. :)

Happy travels!

Hi Arthur,

You can request your visa on arrival in Livingstone. Transit visas have specific terms and conditions attached such as: you can only be in the country for less than 24 hours, must depart from a different border than what you arrived at, must not visit any National Park or tourism sites during your stay and must not be returning to Zambia afterwards. It is still at the discretion of the Immigration official as to whether they will issue you a transit visa or not so bring your powers of persuasion.

Zimbabwe visa's can be purchased at your port (border) of entry. With everything that is going on in Zimbabwe things can change overnight, so make sure you check with your local embassy closer to the time to make sure of the cost and if the visa can still be purchased on arrival.

Good luck!

Hi,

I am Dutch and am planning to visit Vic Falls in October this year together with my girlfriend. We have booked a flight to Livingstone and probably stay one night there, but will have to be in Vic Falls the next day and travel to Botswana their after. Do I understand correctly I can request for a transit visa? Do I need to obtain the visa upforehand, or can I obtain it at Livingstone airport ( which is preferred by me)?
And what about a visa for Zimbabwe? Can this be obtained from the Zambian/Zimbabwan border?

Thanks,

Hi David,

As far as I am aware you do not need a visa for Zimbabwe. Irish passport holders have been exempt from visa's for some time. You will just receive your entry stamp at the port of entry.

Please keep in mind that the situation in Zim is very 'fluid' at the moment and things are changing overnight so be prepared to pay for a visa, just in case. I would budget $50 to be on the safe side.

Enjoy!
