Some recent but ‘not well publicized’ changes to Zambian Visa costs has resulted in a few travelers being caught short on arrival. The most recent information from the Zambian Home Affairs Department states the current visa costs are:
US Nationals - USD135 Multiple Entry
UK Nationals - GBP75 Single Entry, GBP240 Double/Multiple Entry (payable in USD at the exchange rate of the day)
Other Nationalities - USD50 Single Entry, USD80 Double Entry, USD160 Multiple Entry
There are no longer any Visa Waivers, nor can you get a Day Visa for a quick trip across the Falls.
Nationalities that previously did not require a visa to enter Zambia, still do not need to purchase one (Irish, South African etc), but it is always advisable to contact your local Zambian consulate or embassy to confirm this is the case, before your departure.
**Note: These costs are subject to change without notice. Feel free to mail any questions about travel in Africa and overland travel in Africa or share your comments in the space below.

Pls help, I am very confused- we are entering the country via Lusaka and leaving via lusaka. But we are going across to do some travelling in Zimbabwe which means we will be exiting the country for a week or so. What visa do I need , we are a group travelling on Uk and RSA passports.

Hi Vanessa,
Those of you who require visa’s for Zambia will likely need a double or multiple entry visa as you will enter, exit (to Zimbabwe) and re-enter Zambia. You will need to pay in USD so make sure you have cash on hand including some small denominations and to be on the safe side, make sure the notes were printed after 2001.
Have a great trip!

Foolishly i didn’t think about the visa issue, do i need to apply for the visa in country of residence or can i purchase the following visa’s at point of entry or in the UK? Thanks

Hi Shani,
Us ‘Down Under’ types are very fortunate. Your visa for Zambia can be purchased at the border on arrival and it will cost you USD $50. You do not need a visa for Botswana, Namibia or South Africa.
Have a fantastic time!

Hi Husseion,
Any visa for any nationality EXCEPT for US is valid for 3 months. For US passport holders it is valid for 3 yrs.
Happy trails!

Hi Hennie,
Diesel is approx USD $1.80 per litre but I can’t help you with the petrol price I’m afraid. I would suggest you contact a tour operator or car rental company in Zambia for an accurate price.
Good luck!

Hi there,
As far as I am aware, visa’s for Zambia depend on the type of passport you are carrying. I am not aware of the terms of the convention document you have and would suggest you contact your local Zambian embassy in Ireland for a complete and correct answer.
Good luck!
