The news on Zambia visa cost and requirements changes from the African Travel and Tourism Association is that the government of Zambia has recently made significant changes to the visa waiver system and visa costs.
Although the visa changes have not been officially announced by the government of Zambia, the tourism association has received reports that the visa changes have already taken affect at Livingstone Airport, Zambia.
As of 26th January 2008, the visa waiver system in Zambia has been abolished. This would appear to mean that every visitor will be obliged to pay for his or her visa for Zambia.
Zambia visa costs have also increased, as follows:
- UK Nationals - US$140 for a single entry visa (was US$55), US$442 for multiple entry.
- USA Nationals - US$135 per visa (was US$100).
- Canadian Nationals - US$55 per visa (was US$30).
- Other Nationalities: continental Europe - US$50 for a single entry visa (was US$20), US$80 for double entry visa and US$160 for multiple entry visas.
For further visa information regarding the current Zambia visa prices, please contact your local consulate.

Hi Ceri, Most nationalities can purchase their visa’s at their port of entry into Zambia. However, to be on the safe side I would suggest you contact your local Zambian Embassy or High Commission and confirm that is the case for you. Alternatively have a look at a website such as www.projectvisa.com which is often useful.
Happy travels!

Thanks for the information. As UK passport holders visiting Zambia later this year we have been told we can stay in Livingstone for under 7 days on a transit visa (£35 I think) then go out and back into Zambia and pay a single entry visa? Is that right or must we buy a double entry at the crazy price of £240!

Hi Viv,
To the best of my knowledge you will be unable to get back into Zambia on your return trip if you have a recent Transit Visa in your passport. You also can not enter and exit the same port/border on a Transit Visa. Unfortunately I think you will need to get the Multiple Entry visa but to be on the safe side have a look at the Zambian Immigration site http://www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm/zims/Visas.aspx
I hope that will be helpful.
Happy trails!

Is it possible to obtain a multiple entry visa at the port of entry to Zambia? The website above zambiaimmigration is ambiguous on this point. Thanks for your article - it’s very useful.

Hi Roger,
That depends on your nationality. MOST nationalities can obtain their visa’s at the port of entry. www.projectvisa.com is usually pretty up to date with this info. See if that helps and if not, let me know and I’ll see what I can do!
Happy travels!

Hi Tania
I am travelling on a British passport endorsed with a South African permanent resident permit. I will be visiting Lusaka from 25th to 27th June. Do I need a Visa and if so what will it cost?
Thanks for your assistance.

Hi Ian,
Sorry to say you will have to buy a visa based on your passport (as opposed to your residency status) which will cost you GBP75 for a single entry.
Enjoy!

Hi Dan
You would have to query this with the company that is organising your volunteer work - alternatively please contact African Impact - they are a company that organises volunteer work for travellers http://www.africanimpact.com/
Good Luck!

Hi Dan,
As far as I am aware, since they got rid of the visa waiver, that you would have to buy a full visa upon entry - but do check with whoever is organising your trip just to be sure.
Happy trails!

Tania,
I’m looking into traveling to Zambia. I’m going to Nairobi, Kenya for the month of July and I was thinking of visiting Lusaka, Zambia for a week to see a friend. How can I get a visa for Zambia? Can I buy the visa in the airport in Lusaka?
